Pool Tips: A Guide for Taking the Plunge

What To Look For When Buying A Hot Tub Cover

Are you in need of a new cover for your hot tub? If so, know that all covers are not the same, and there are actually some big differences between them that can make one better than the other. Here are some things to look for when comparing hot tub covers.

Solar Covers

A good cover is going to not only keep the debris out of the hot tub, but keep the heat inside as well. That is why you want to look into a solar cover that will help trap heat from the sun and transfer it to the water. This can be done by making a cover with a layer that touches the water with solar absorbing bubbles. This will help cut down on your energy bills over time, since you'll need to spend less money to heat the hot tub.

Walk-On Covers

Do you have a deck that has the hot tub built into it, making the entry point at ground level? Do you also have kids that seem to run around on that deck with reckless abandon? If so, you'll need a walk-on cover for your hot tub. These covers are made with aluminum so that the cover has enough strength to support someone walking over it. While you should never actively encourage your children to play on the hot tub cover, a walk-on cover can give you the peace of mind that you need to ensure that your children and the hot tub are safe.

In addition, these walk-on covers are going to be able to handle the weight of a lot of snow in the winter time. If you live in a region that sees a lot of snow, a walk-on cover made with aluminum supports can give you the extra protection that it needs.

Fabric Covers

If you live in a warmer climate that doesn't see much rain, all you may need is a fabric cover to go over the hot tub. This is going to be a cheap and effective way to keep debris out without breaking your wallet. These covers will need to be tied down to the hot tub to ensure that they do not blow away, since there is typically not enough weight to hold them in place.

Foam Top Covers

If you want a bit more protection on a budget, a foam top cover will be just what you need. It will give the top the extra protection from debris collecting on the hot tub, but not provide many benefits that the previously mentioned covers provide.
